**Beginning of the school year***
Dear Parents,
We had a successful first few days of school! The students jumped right in to learning! Some concepts we learned about this week are theme, character development throughout a story, geography, life in the 1600’s and how to properly utilize the Student Reference Book in Everyday
Math. We are reading The Great Gilly Hopkins together, and starting a book project using Blood
on the River. We have many fun activities planned!
Students are excited about reading. Some have already asked for book orders, so I’ve attached 2 magazines for perusal. If you choose to place an order, please send a check written to Scholastic Book Orders. If you’d like to order online, our class code is GP7LD. Using the code helps build our
classroom library, and everyone loves new books.
I appreciate your help in signing your child’s agenda each evening. Most students will not have to continue with this routine, but it’s a great way to communicate with your child about homework, especially during the first few weeks of school. You can always check our iSchool page to view daily homework. It is http://ischool.fcps.net/course/view.php?id=2776. The link might
be easier to access from our RPE site. I’ve shown the students how to do this, so your child can help you
bookmark the site at home.
Grades are a big part of fifth grade. You can access your child’s grades through the district’s Parent Portal site. The link for this can be found at www.fcps.net and clicking on “Parent/Student Portal” in the upper right-hand corner. You’ll need to set up an account if you haven’t done so already.
My goal this year is to support each student in having a fun, successful school
year. Please feel free to communicate with me to make this possible. I truly appreciate your support!
Sincerely,
Mrs. George
